I. Last Meeting

Saturday, July 19th was the date of the annual Mead Clinic, held at the historic Bocock Manor in central OKC. As usual, it was a hodge-podge of mead fact, fiction, technique and tasting. Casual estimates put the varieties of mead somewhere around 60, from "it-don't-get-much-easier" traditional show meads to "huh?" rhubarb/mango melomel. A wide assortment of fabulous comestibles kept everyone standing for the long haul and the pool was cool in the heat of the afternoon. An assortment of brew-kids were on hand for the event as well, entertaining all the grups with their knee-slapping antics. Thanks to Joe for hosting and putting up with all the shenanigans.

II. Next Meeting

Yes, summer's over and we're approaching brewing season again. Our September meeting will be held at the Professional Brewer's Warehouse on the evening of Friday, September 19th at 7:00 p.m. A strange place for a meeting, you say? Not when it coincides with the demise of the Warehouse club!!! That's right, Joe and Jim are hanging up the rollermill and putting the fermenters out to pasture, so we'll gather to raise a glass to all the brews, good, bad or otherwise that began with a trip to the Warehouse. Events for the evening include a liquidation sale (see details below), a bonfire of undetermined size, a possible actual brewing session and definite fun and frivolity. It's a not-to-be-missed event, so load up some chow, your honey and a bunch of brew for the Warehouse Apocalypse. Directions to the Warehouse, located at 317 N.W. 67th are as follows: Take the Broadway Extension to 63rd street (just north of the I-44 junction), head west on 63rd to Harvey (by the Met Life building) and turn north until the street deadends into 67th. Turn west (left) and follow 67th until it dead ends into Hudson. The Warehouse will be evident.

V. Winners Circle

Here's a beer that's perfect for Christmas, though it may be Christmas 98 before it will be aged sufficiently. If you'll recall, Steve Law tied himself for first place in the Bock is Best competition. Here's his recipe for the tieing doppelbock:

Liberator Doppelbock
1st Place, AHA Bock is Best Club-Only Competition

VI. Belle Isle Rocks!

Jack Sparks, brewmaster at the Belle Isle Brewery and the Interurban has been brewing like a man gone mad. Do yourself a favor and head down to Belle Isle soon, as Jack will have 8, count em, 8 beers on tap for your enjoyment. I don't know if anyone is keeping track, but this sounds like a record in the state to me. And the variety!!! You can avail yourself of an American wheat, an oktoberfest, an amber ale, an IPA, a porter, a blonde ale, a steam beer or a brown ale! The window of opportunity when all 8 are available will likely be brief, so check it out, just to say you were there.
